LABORATORY INVESTIGATIONS - Sedative but Not Analgesic a2 Agonist Tolerance Is Blocked by NMDA Receptor and Nitric Oxide Synthase Inhibitors - Inhibition of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors and nitric oxide synthase block induction but not expression of tolerance to the hypnotic effect of dexmedetomidine. Coadministration of neither MK-801 nor NO2-arginine prevented the development or reversed the expression of tolerance to the analgesic action of dexmedetomidine.
