Synthesis, characterization and evaluation of the simple benzaldoximes protective effect against lipid peroxidation
A series of fourteen benzaldoximes were synthetized and evaluated for antioxidant activity using lipid peroxidation (LP) method based on TBA-MDA assay, selecting BHA, BHT, troxol and quercetin as positive controls. Except for compounds 5, 6 and 9, most of the tested compounds had antioxidant properties. Compounds 12 ($ IC_{50} $ = 25.7 ± 5.2 μM) and 13 ($ IC_{50} $ = 55.3 ± 21.1 μM) expressed excellent antioxidant activity, having results comparable to Trolox ($ IC_{50} $ = 22.0 ± 6.0 μM) and quercetin ($ IC_{50} $ = 23.0 ± 6.0 μM). The results of our study on benzaldoximes might constitute a sort of a promising starting point for the development of new LP inhibitors useful for the prevention of oxidative damage.
