An Investigation of Experimental Dental Restorative Composites Filled with Nano-Hydroxyapatite Treated with Different Silanes
Abstract In the complex oral atmosphere, these materials undergo drastic variations in the elastic modulus and yield strength over the operation transition range. This research work aims to demonstrate the efficacy of MPTS (M)/APTES (A) treated nano-hydroxyapatite (n-HAPs) filler (i.e., 0, 4, 8 & 12 wt.%) in the development of high strength, thermally stable photocurable dental composite over a temperature range of 30–250 °C. To understand the thermomechanical behavior of dental restoratives, the dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and simultaneous thermal analysis (STA) of newly developed dental restoratives were performed. It has been observed from the results that dental composite filled with 12 M wt.% and 8A wt.% of n-HAP filler shows improved thermomechanical properties i.e. storage and loss modulus, damping, mass loss, and heat flow over unfilled and other composition of MPTS/APTES functionalized n-HAPs filled dental restorative composite (DRCs). It shows approximately 31.27% and 58.99% improvement in storage modulus for DRC-12 M and DRC-8A over unfilled dental material respectively. Hence, the outcomes of the thermomechanical properties of proposed dental composite illustrates that this material can be successfully used in the variety of adhesive dentistry applications such as crown cementation, fissure sealants, lining or narrow filling material to repair the cracked/fractured composite restorations..
