The complete mitochondrial genome of the Burmese roofed turtle (Batagur trivittata) (Testudines: Geoemydidae)

Abstract The Burmese roofed turtle (Batagur trivittata) is endemic to Myanmar, but was believed to be extinct until rediscovered in 2002. In the present study, it’s complete mitochondrial genome was reconstructed from whole-genome Illumina sequencing data. The circular genome is 16,463 bp in length, and harbors 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs) and one control region (D-loop). The putative control region (947 bp) is located between tRNA-Phe and tRNA-Pro, with an A + T content of 64.9 %. The base composition of the genome is A (33.6 %), C (28.6 %), G (13.3 %) and T (24.5 %) with an overall GC content of 41.9 %. Phylogenetic analysis suggests that B. trivittata is closely related to its confamilial counterparts than to the other taxa..
