Ann Burgess

Szulecki features forensic nurse Ann Burgess' contributions to the field. While teaching at Boston College, Burgess met Lynda Lytle Holmstrom, a medical sociologist who told her about feminist "consciousness-raising" groups that were forming around the country. The concept immediately sparked Burgess' interest. Burgess and Holmstrom decided to work together to study victims of rape in the hospital setting. In 1972, they initiated theft research project by establishing one of the first hospital-based crisis counseling programs for rape victims at Boston City Hospital..
