An outstanding question in embryogenesis is how different-sized animals maintain similarly proportioned body plans. In this issue of Developmental Cell, Uygur et al. (2016) tackle this issue in the context of neural tube patterning, discovering that differential sensitivity to the Hedgehog pathway may provide one answer to this fundamental issue.
