ABSTRACT Currently, resistance to antibiotics and the high production of bacterial biofilm have led to the search for new therapeutic alternatives in the veterinary area. The objective of this study was to determine the antimicrobial effect of thymol (a bactericidal component of the essential oil of Thymus vulgaris ) and tilmicosin, and mixtures of both substances, on strains of Staphylococcus sp., Streptococcus sp. and Escherichia coli isolated from cases of bovine mastitis, showing a high production of biofilm in gram-positive bacteria and resistance to aminoglycosides, while gram-negative bacteria a moderate production of biofilm and resistance to ampicillin. An additive effect was obtained with the active mixtures in the three bacterial genera.
