Chemical composition of needle and twig essential oils fromPinus krempfiiLecomte, an endemic species to Vietnam / Tran Huy Thai, Nguyen the Cuong, Nguyen Thi Hien, Mathieu Paoli, Joseph Casanova, Félix Tomi

ABSTRACT Pinus krempfii Lecomte is endemic to the central highlands of Vietnam. It is also known as Krempf’s pine or flat-needled pine. Two essential oil samples have been isolated from leaves and branches, respectively, and analyzed by a combination of chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques [GC(FID), GC-MS and 13 C NMR]. The compositions of both oil samples were dominated by monoterpene hydrocarbons, α-pinene, limonene and myrcene. Sesquiterpene hydrocarbons were represented by (E)-β-caryophyllene and germacrene D. Camphorene (meta isomer) was identified at low content. The compositions of essential oil samples from P. krempfii have been compared with those of other essential oils from various species of Vietnamese pines.
