NOVEL COMPOUND OF OHIONSIN F FOR PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF ATHEROSCLEROSIS FROM POLYTRICHASTRUM ALPINUM

PURPOSE: A composition containing ohioensin F which is derived from Polytrichastrum alpinum for preventing or treating atherosclerosis is provided to suppress the expression of a cell adhesion molecule induced by TNF-alpha. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating artherosclerosis contains 0.01-10 wt% of ohioensin F denoted by chemical formula I, which is a benzonaphthoxanthenone-based compound, as an active ingredient. Ohioensin F suppresses the expression of a cell adhesion molecule induced by TNF-alpha. The cell adhesion molecule is ICAM-1 and VCAM-1..
