The invention relates to the technical field of lithium batteries, and discloses a lithium battery negative electrode material and a preparation method thereof.The lithium battery negative electrode material is of a hierarchical multi-layer structure and sequentially comprises a nanometer metal oxide core material layer, a nitrogen-doped porous carbon layer and graphene from inside to outside, according to the present invention, the lithium battery negative electrode material has high specific capacity, the nitrogen-doped porous carbon layer is adopted as the middle layer to coat the nanometer cerium oxide core material layer, the lithium battery negative electrode material has high specific capacity and high rate performance, the graphene is adopted as the outermost layer, and the graphene is adopted to form the three-dimensional bridging structure so as to achieve the high specific capacity and the high rate performance; and the lithium battery negative electrode material shows higher conductivity, rate capability and cycling stability..
