The average size of the Si-coated SiOx composite material with the yolk structure is 0.03-30 [mu] m, the Si-coated SiOx composite material with the yolk structure is composed of an inner core and a shell, a cavity structure exists between the inner core and the shell, the inner core is porous silicon, the shell is a SiOx layer with the thickness of 2-50 nm, the SiOx layer is free of holes, and x is larger than 0 and smaller than or equal to 2; in the Si (at) SiOx composite material with the yolk structure, the cavity structure accounts for 10-70% of the total volume. According to the invention, the yolk-structured Si-coated SiOx composite material is prepared by a simple one-step etching method, and the yolk-structured Si-coated SiOx composite material has the characteristics of high capacity, good cycle performance and high initial coulombic efficiency when being used as a negative electrode active material of a lithium ion battery..
