Intravenous non-opioid analgesic as a component of perioperative pain management: a review of literature of ibuprofen intravenous usage
The development of anesthesiology during the early XXI century is characterized by a tendency to limit the use of opioids during anesthesia (low-opioid and non-opioid anesthesia) and postoperative analgesia. One of the most common ways to reduce opioid usage is to use nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. A well-known representative of this drugs ibuprofen opens new opportunities for the treatment of pain in various fields of surgery, anesthesiology, and intensive care. Some studies, which results are analyzed in this literature review, thoroughly prove that the use of ibuprofen at a dose of 800 mg intravenously provides better postoperative analgesia and reduces the need for opioid analgesics compared with placebo and comparators such as acetaminophen. Ibuprofen for intravenous administration also showed better antipyretic properties compared to acetaminophen in the treatment of fever in hospitalized pediatric patients..
