ALLERGIC RHINOSINUSITIS

Allergic rhinosinusitis is a common disorder that affects 10-30% of adults worldwide. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the relationship between persistent allergic rhinosinusitis and vasomotor rhinosinusitis in a group of 63 patients previously hospitalized in the IMSP Republican Clinical Hospital with these conditions. The main objective was accomplished by analyzing the etiological factors, comorbidities, symptoms and treatment, undergone by these patients. Of this group, 77.7% (n=49) of subjects suffered from persistent allergic rhinosinusitis and 22.3% (n =14) suffered from vasomotor rhinosinusitis. It was found that the incidence of allergic rhinosinusitis compared to vasomotor rhinsinusitis is 3:1. Allergic rhinosinusitis predominates in males, while vasomotor rhinosinusitis predominates in females. Patients with allergic rhinosinusitis as opposed to those with vasomotor rhinosinusitis have an increased risk of developing other atopic diseases such as asthma, conjunctivitis and atopic dermatitis..
