Orígenes del movimiento de atención primaria de salud en Cuba
Una búsqueda en la historia de las prestaciones de salud en Cuba que se puedan calificar como de atención primaria, encontrará algunos ejemplos en siglos pasados. Pero no es hasta la década que se inicia en 1960, cuando aparece un movimiento que crea y desarrolla con alcance nacional, con estructura y funciones claramente definidas y con recursos específicos que aseguran su sostenibilidad, un subsistema del Sistema Nacional de Salud que alcanza su madurez, con eficiencia y eficacia notables, en la última década del pasado siglo. En esta comunicación se expone el origen, los principios y los momentos relevantes del desarrollo en este subsistema en los últimos 40 años, así como su alcance actual y posibilidades futuras.<br<A search into the history of the health services in Cuba that might be qualified as primary care services would reveal some examples in the past centuries; however, it was not until the 1960´s decade that there emerged a movement that created and developed a subsystem of the National Health Care System with nationwide scope, clearly defined functions and structures, and allocated resources for its sustainability. This subsystem reached its maturity with remarkable efficiency and efficacy in the last decade of the past century. This communication presents the origin, the principles and the most important instances of the development of this subsystem in the last 40 years as well as its present scope and future possibilities..
