Endocarditis Caused By Stenotrophomonas (Xanthomonas) maltophilia: A Case Report
Stenotrophomonas maltophilia which is frequently isolated from hospital surroundings, has recently paired importance due to multiple drug resistance and as a cause of hospital acquired infections in increasing frequency. Although S. maltophilia causes various types of infection, endocarditis secondary to S. maltophilia is a very rare condition. A 40 years old man with a nine months history of aortic valve replacement was diagnosed as endocarditis caused by S. maltophilia resistant to various antibiotics is presented. The patient was successfully treated by using a combination of ticarcilline/clavulanate and trimethoprim/sulphamethoxazole treatment. Treatment of endocarditis caused by S. maltophilia in relation to pertinent literature is also discussed..
