Die vorliegende explorative deskriptive Studie diente im Wesentlichen dem Zweck der Hypo-thesengenerierung. Ausgangspunkt der Überlegungen war, dass die anti-atherosklerotische Wir-kung von Niacin auf eine anti-inflammatorische Modulation des Adipokinmilieus und / oder des Zytokinprofils im peripheren Blut zurückzuführen sei. Zu diesem Zweck wurden neben Parametern, die zur Therapiesteuerung dienten, auch verschie-dene Adipokine sowie die mRNA-Expression von Zyto- und Chemokinen und Adhäsionsmo-lekülen im Blut gemessen. The present exploratory descriptive study essentially served the purpose of generating hypotheses. The starting point for the considerations was that the anti-atherosclerotic effect of niacin could be attributed to an anti-inflammatory modulation of the adipokine environment and/or the cytokine profile in the peripheral blood. For this purpose, in addition to parameters that were used to control therapy, various adipokines as well as the mRNA expression of cytokines and chemokines and adhesion molecules in the blood were measured.
