New Religions in the Era of WITH-COVID-19: Their Perceptions and Responses
본 논문은 한국에서 활동하는 신종교의 코로나19에 관한 인식과 대응을 분석한다. 그리스도교(개신교와 천주교)와 불교의 인식과 대응과는 달리, 신종교 공동체는 코로나19에 따른 질병과 고통에 의미를 부여하고 있으며, 과학적이며 동시에 영적인 근거를 제시하고 종교적 맥락에서 효과적이며 창조적인 대응을 이어가고 있다. 한국 외래 신종교로서 UFO종교를 대표하는 라엘리안운동은 사회적 거리두기와 마스크 착용 및 백신 접종을 거부하라는 라엘의 훈시를 받고 있지만, 바하이신앙은 방역당국에 최대한 협조하면서 비대면 서비스를 확장하고 치유의 기도를 드리며 돌봄과 나눔의 서비스를 실천하고 있다. 만트라독송과 음악연주를 강조하는 하레크리슈나운동은 과학적 근거에 기반한 포교활동을 진행하면서도 비대면 기부활동과 개인제단 제작에 힘을 기울이고 있다. 크리스천 사이언스와 사이언톨로지는 과학적 세계관을 강조하면서 영적 치유의 중요성과 상담의 필요성을 강조한다. 한국 자생 신종교를 대표하는 원불교, 대순진리회, 가정연합, 금강대도 등도 비대면 온라인 모임과 교육을 적극적으로 수용하면서도 팬데믹의 영적 의미를 다양한 각도에서 조명하고 새로운 형태의 교육과 포교를 진작시키며 신종교의 사회적 책임과 공공성을 모색하고 있다..
This article deals with the perceptions of new religions and their responses to the pandemic of COVID-19 in South Korea. New religious communities transmit spiritual teaching and perform effective practices, unlike the two major religions, Christianity and Buddhism. The leader of Raelian movements rejects social distancing, mask-wearing, and vaccine immunization. On the contrary, Bahai communities cooperate with public health authorities and offer the services of caring and sharing in non-face-to-face ways. Hare Krishna movements emphasize online contribution to help people in trouble and individual altar construction. Christian Science and Scientology pay attention to scientific analyses of health and spiritual meaning of diseases. Korean indigenous new religions, including Won-Buddhism, Daesoon Jinrihoe, and Unification Church, propose new forms of religious culture, religious education, and religious welfare, seeking the social responsibility of new religions and their publicness in the era of With-COVID-19..
