Canine and feline liver cytology / Carlo Masserdotti

"Cytology studies is today used by clinicians, because of its usefulness in diagnosis of a lot of primary pathological conditions, mostly neoplastic diseases. Although diagnostic for many diseases, cytology is still infrequently used in evaluation of some organs, like the liver. Hepatic cytology provides a lot of information about primary pathological processes, but its usefulness is still underestimated and by-passed in diagnosis of many hepatic diseases by direct histopathological evaluation. From these points, there arises the need for a dedicated handbook, with a detailed description of cytological features of hepatic diseases, in the form of numerous pictures to help with understanding the text and a detailed description of the points to be discussed in report, as a tool for practitioner to support in histological diagnosis. Canine and Feline Liver Cytology is a practical manual encompassing detailed reference work with highly specialized content. This book presents detailed text for any cytological conditions, heavy in images of high quality. The limited content of the chapters in books and the few research papers, published in the last decade about hepatic cytology, don't allow a complete and detailed description of the many cytologic changes, as in this new book. Cytologists, more than written morphological description, need high quality images to correctly interpret specific cytological changes; then, cytologists need explanations and correlation with primary causes of a pathological process. So here, together with the cytologic features, the causal pathway and the metabolic background are well described. One of the primary aims of this book is to describe the correlation of the cytological findings with the pathological processes, in order to provide useful information to the clinicians in management of the hepatic diseases"--.
