"This book examines the climatological processes that affect human health. This chapter, however, focuses on the physical processes associated with climate change to provide a foundation for subsequent discussions. In particular, we clarify how greenhouse gases alter the Earth's energy balance, describe recent climate trends and projections of future climate change. In addition, we present multiple converging lines of evidence that support that the climate is indeed changing and that the changes are primarily caused by human activities"--.
