Chemical Variability Of Essential Oil of Daucus carota subsp. sativus from Algeria

Chemical compositions of essential oils of Daucus carota subsp. sativus, from eight locations in Algeria, obtained by hydrodistillation, were identified by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy (GC/MS). The essential oils extracted from roots were composed mainly of oxygenated diterpenes (27.3%), oxygenated sesquiterpenes (14.3%), and nonterpenic hydrocarbon compounds (12.2%); oils extracted from aerial parts were characterized by sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (28.6%), oxygenated sesquiterpenes (24.0%), and monoterpene hydrocarbons (15.2%); compounds of roots' collective oil were geranyl linalool (27.3%), myristicine (7.3%), pentacosane (5.6%), spathulenol (3.8%), and (E)-γ-bisabolene (3.2%). The major compounds of aerial parts' collective oil were: alismol (15.2%), (E)-β-caryophyllene (10.1%), myrcene (9.6%), α-humulene (9.5%), and β-ionone (5.2%)..
