Transverse Aortic Arch Transection in a Polytrauma Patient-Challenges Faced and Lessons Learned

Aortic injuries are notoriously lethal, particularly when associated with concomitant injuries. We describe the evaluation and management of a polytrauma patient with transverse arch transection that was complicated by dissection of both common carotid arteries. He was managed with aortic arch replacement and reimplanatation of the innominate and left common carotid arteries with an additional graft from the ascending aorta to the right common carotid artery.
